Kevin Mahoney

Kevin is a first-year undergraduate civil and environmental engineering student at the University of California, Berkeley. His related interests include environmental justice and the incorporation of sociopolitical, cultural, and demographic factors into engineering work. He is currently working at a wastewater treatment and groundwater testing project in West Oakland under the guidance of the Berkeley Water Center and the Blum Center for Developing Economies and is a research assistant at the Environmental Fluid Mechanics Laboratory and at the University of California, San Francisco. Kevin speaks English, Chinese, and Japanese and is learning German and Korean. In his free time he enjoys rowing, hiking, running, playing horn, and traveling.

Tomoko has 26 years of professional experience in health care.  Her specialization includes community health, maternal and child health, public health research, human resource development for health workforce, health policy and project management.  She worked with government and non-government organizations on various health projects in developing countries such as Mexico, Indonesia, Solomon Islands, and Angola. Tomoko earned her Master of Public Health (MPH) major in Global Health from the School of Public Health, Boston University.  She completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science in Japan and is a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) and Public Health Nurse (PHN) in her native country.  Tomoko speaks Japanese, English, Spanish, Indonesian, and Bislama.

Dawn is a Biochemist from Stanford University. Her research has focused on the development of chemical detection tests. She has also developed an inhibitor of respiratory cancers while at UCSF. She is leading a team of researchers investigating stem cell regenerative medicine in respiratory diseases at Stanford University. Dawn is very passionate about current global environmental and climate issues. She joins the organization with a strong commitment to make a difference with her strong research and innovative experience developing and implementing project completion.

Nir  is an Assistant Professor of civil engineering at the City College of New York. Dr. Krakauer’s research interests include effect of climate on plants; underground water, surface heat, moisture, and carbon exchanges; impact of plants on precipitation and temperature patterns; hydrology and biogeochemistry of sustainable agriculture and building; carbon isotopes as tracers of fossil fuel burning, ocean carbon uptake, and respiration; inferring the effect of past climate on ecology from tree-ring and coral records; providing useful climate forecasts through statistical and physical downscaling; distributed sensor networks for environmental monitoring; and data assimilation in carbon and hydrology models.
